Great Ormond Street Hospital - finding alternatives to chemotherapy.

Chemotherapy has saved so many children’s lives. But sadly for some children it fails.
We need new treatments to give these children hope for survival.
Chemotherapy can also have terrible long term side-effects. Heart damage, infertility and teenage cancers.
We’re funding crucial research to find less toxic treatments.
Research into alternatives at Great Ormond Street
At Great Ormond Street Hospital, four project teams are looking into alternatives to chemotherapy - how the immune system can be helped to fight leukaemia.
The body’s own immune system can play an important role in the detection and elimination of leukaemic cells. Some people’s immune systems are better at this than others.
The teams are using techniques to reprogramme the immune system, helping it to recognise and destroy tumour cells effectively.
You can help
We have provided funding of £1 million towards this research: alternatives to chemotherapy could give hope to many more leukaemic children.
A donation from you can help these research teams make a real difference to the treatments offered to leukaemic children.
